4 Travel Tips That Every Extrovert Needs To Know

Traveling is one of the most important ways to learn and grow as a person. For extroverts, traveling may seem like an easy prospect, but remember that your social skills will only carry you so far. You can travel savvy when you’re able to step outside of yourself and consider how your personality can impact your experience. Today, we’re going to offer a few tips for extroverts to make your next adventure that much more enlightening.

Tip #1: Be Open To New Experiences On Your Trip

As extroverts tend to follow the group and seek engagement with people, try out experiences that go against that. For example, if you’re choosing between meeting up with friends and going to a new area on your own, try going alone! While it may be uncomfortable to be alone for a while, you will often find great insight and meaning when you have to rely only on yourself.

Also, be open to the less tourist-dense parts of the place you’re visiting. By engaging with locals and going off the beaten path, you will have the opportunity to meet new people, and learn more about the area you’re visiting than staying with the tourist group.

It’s important to remember that, if you do choose to ‘go it alone’, you should always let someone know where you’re headed and when you expect to be back — a friend, family member, or even a hotel concierge — just in case!

Tip #2: Let Others Lead You Onto New Experiences

If you consider yourself an extrovert, you may find it challenging to give up the spotlight, especially when traveling in a group. But with so many places to go and things to see, sometimes traveling to new and exciting places can be overwhelming. That’s why having a tour guide or local expert serve as your guide can be a lifesaver, and an amazing way to open up new experiences that you never thought were possible!

Tip #3: Learn About The Area From Others

Extroverts know the value of talking to other people, and having a deep conversation with someone will only enrich your travel experience. Take advantage of the fact that you’re comfortable engaging in conversation with strangers by asking locals where they like to eat, drink and play.

Don’t pretend to know everything about your destination; learn about local culture and customs from the people who know the place best! This may seem straightforward, but too often tourists will visit a new destination without ever once bothering to speak to a local.

A word of caution, though: while you may be willing to spark up a conversation with the person standing in line at the coffee shop or sitting next to you on the plane, not everyone feels the same way! Be respectful of everyone’s privacy, and don’t force a conversation if the other person expresses disinterest.

Tip #4: Take It All In

As the adage goes, travel is more about the journey than the destination. You learn so much more by doing and seeing things you never thought that you would do than by staying in the tourist areas. And when you’re in tourist traps, you become boxed into taking pictures and buying souvenirs, which is not really experiencing the destination.

So, remember to embrace the unexpected and do as many non-tourist things as you can along the way. When you stop buying an experience and start living the experience, you’re going to take away some of the best memories that you will ever have.
